Questions and Answers
What is Coaching?

Firstly the official definition of coaching, as provided by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) states that:

Professional coaches provide an ongoing partnership designed to help clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives. Coaches help people improve their performances and enhance the quality of their lives.
Coaches are trained to listen, to observe and to customize their approach to individual client needs. They seek to elicit solutions and strategies from the client; they believe the client is naturally creative and resourceful. The coach's job is to provide support to enhance the skills, resources, and creativity that the client already has.”

We design a partnership that ideally exceeds the coaching requirements and expectations of yourself and/or your staff.
What can I expect?

IF YOU’RE LOOKING AT COACHING FOR JUST YOURSELF:

Firstly we gather information about what you’re looking for and how we can help you. This is done over the phone or by completing some easy questions.

We then schedule your initial session either face to face or over the phone to set your goals / objectives and gain insights as to what’s preventing you from already having those results.

By the time you’ve experienced your first session you will have seen what it’s all about, gotten an understanding of how it works, and will have a feeling for what you would like to do next to move forward.

IF YOU’RE RECRUITING A COACH FOR YOUR STAFF / PERSONNEL:

Firstly, we ascertain your initial expectations and objectives.

Once we have a clear picture, and provided it makes sense to move forward, we then arrange a meeting to clarify requirements, expectations, logistics, etc.

On agreement, we submit the paperwork for approval and start our assessment process to ascertain who we are working with, what their objectives are, and how we will gauge ROI - Return on Investment and / or ROE - Return on Expectations.

Results are then monitored throughout the coaching engagement and then again at the completion of the coaching program to ensure that your expectation and requirements are met / surpassed.

Decisions are then made as to future arrangements for ongoing coaching if that is what the client wants.
We already have staff training? What would be the benefits of also introducing coaching?
How much of what your staff learns in training is actually being applied? Research shows that coaching makes a huge difference to the implementation of training. It has been said that “Training without coaching is just entertainment.” Coaching enables individuals to actually apply what they have learnt, which adds enormous value to the ROI on your training investments.
We have a lot of people that may need coaching. How many clients are you capable of handling?
We have the resources to provide coaching services for large numbers of executives, new recruits, and teams. We have several coaches working with us that all have exceptional experience, qualifications, and skills. You can be assured that all of our coaches are professional, presentable, accountable, and proficient in coaching methodologies. Details of all coaches are submitted and approved by you prior to the commencement of your coaching programs.
What sort of people work with a coach? Is it like counselling?

Coaching is for people interested in maximising and creating their lives and results. Whatever your current degree of success or satisfaction, coaching helps to ‘cultivate’ lives, in the same way that we ideally cultivate anything important.

Most people look at their coaching as a ‘badge of honour’ in that it represents a success orientation that sets them apart from the crowd.

Coaching is quite different to counselling in that we focus on realising your present and future potential, whereas counselling is more remedial. Both are important, yet they are different. If you are uncertain of the difference, please just call us on (02) 9251 4700 or email katherine@powerhousecoaching.com.au and we will be happy to clarify this.

What are your qualifications and experience?

KATHERINE HOSIE – DIRECTOR

My initial training was with New Insights Coach Training program, where I was then immediately taken on to work with the CEO as his ‘protégé’. My training that followed has included the New Insights Executive Coaching program, followed by gaining my qualifications as first a Practitioner, and then Master Practitioner, of Neuro Linguistic Programming and Time Line Therapy.

I am also a qualified Certified Master Coach (C.M.C.) (training available by invitation only) with Dr. Suzanne Skiffington and Perry Zeus’ International GRADUATE SCHOOL OF MASTER COACHES, that has been described as “consistently (rating) as the leading executive and business coaching school by far” by the ICAA Centre for International Education.

I have served as a Mentor Coach for dozens of coaches over the last several years. I now have well over 3,000 hours of coaching sessions’ experience, and am in the process of completing my accreditation as a Professional Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation, before submitting my application for accreditation as a Master Certified Coach – the highest level available in the industry.

I am a Member of the International Coaching Federation and also a Founding Member of the Australian Board of NLP.

Please also refer to our Testimonials and Success Stories to see what other clients have to say about their experiences.
What do I need to do to prepare for my first coaching session?
Nothing. Once we have spoken over the phone and ascertained what you’re looking for, you can enjoy the process. Your coach will guide you through your first session and you may find that you learn many things about yourself that you were not aware of.
Do I need to commit to a certain number of sessions?

It depends. If you are arranging coaching for your company / staff, then most of our coaching programs are based on 12 – 15 sessions, with further coaching arranged on request.

If you are arranging coaching for yourself as an individual, then you are free to employ your coach for as long as you want. Most people find that they continue their coaching for at least six months, and more frequently well over a year or two, as their coaching enables them to achieve results far beyond what they would normally achieve on their own.

As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Our chief want in life is for someone to make us do what we can.”
I am already pretty busy. Do I need to do any work between sessions or is it all done during my time with the coach?
That’s entirely up to you. Most people take advantage of the progress they can make between sessions through doing certain exercises, etc, on their own. However, many others like to handle things ‘then and there’, in terms of making decisions, planning projects, etc. This is something that you can look at and choose for yourself as your coaching moves forward.
Is coaching tax deductible?

It may be. If you are an employee and your coaching is directly impacting your professional results then this may be recorded as Professional Development Coaching. If you have your own business that your coaching is addressing, then that may be recorded as Business Coaching. However, we strongly suggest that you contact your accountant to be certain.

What if I don't live in Sydney? Can I still do the coaching program is i'm not a local?
Yes. A large number of our clients conduct their coaching over the telephone. This also works extremely well for locals, as time can be valuable and the same results can be generated over the phone. In fact, sometimes people find that their coaching sessions are even more targeted when done this way. It’s up to you, wherever you’re situated.
Are there any other alternatives such as audio programs or remote coaching?
This is something that we are developing right now. If you’re interested in being kept up to date on developments like these, please just send a brief email to katherine@powerhousecoaching.com.au and we’ll certainly keep you informed.
How do I know the coach will be right for me?
One of the main reasons that we like to have contact with our clients before we start the coaching process is to make sure that the relationship is a good match – for both yourself and your coach. As we’ve had a lot of experience, we can be quite sure that you’ll feel comfortable with us straight away. However, you are always free to do as you please, and if you think you would work well with a particular type of coach then we will be happy to help by helping to arrange that for you.
What happens if I miss a session or don't show up?
The coaching agreement states that you choose a certain time of the week / fortnight that you know you can be available for your coaching session. If you are having a busy week, you can always choose to have a phone session. If, however, you miss a session or don’t show up, then that session will be included as if you had attended, and therefore invoiced as usual.
What about installment or payment plans?
Whilst some people choose to pay for their coaching in advance, many others choose to use instalment plans that keep their coaching sessions current with their instalments. Coaching is affordable to anyone that is committed to achieving their goals.

The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.
